I acquired this whiskey via a little old fashioned horse trading. A couple extra bottles of Elmer T. Lee got me some Yippee Ki-Yay. Was it worth giving up my prized ETL?
High West Yippee Ki-Yay
Batch 4; 46%
Color: Reddish Amber
Nose: Grapes, manischewitz wine, cinnamon, clover, and tobacco.
Taste: First was some regular bourbon notes: spice, clover, wet grass, and brown sugar followed by some wine, lemon, and slight vinegar notes.
Finish: I didn’t taste a ton of vermouth mostly I felt that the vermouth affects the mouth feel namely the dryness which is can also be attributed to the syrah. This is a strange blend and finish but ultimately it works.
Verdict: B-
Personally I don’t think it’s an everyday drinker but it could be a nice dessert drink in place of brandy or a nice palate cleanser when you’re in the mood for something different. Not High Wests best blend but the bar for them its pretty high and it’s still very good.
